How To put iPhone or iPad in DFU mode (in 2 minutes)

Step 1: The first thing you have to do is plugging your iPhone or iPad into your computer and opening up your iTunes (doesn’t matter if your iPhone is on or off).

Step 2: Now you need to press and hold your Power Button and your Home Button (for iPhone 6S or below) or your Power Button and Volume Down Button (for iPhone 7 or higher) together for 8 seconds.

Step 3: Now you are half way through! After 8 seconds release your Power Button but continue holding your Home Button (this is for iPhone 6S or below) or Volume Down Button (this is for iPhone 7 and higher) until iTunes says “iTunes has detached an iPhone recovery mode”.

 Step 4: Now let go off your Home Button or Volume Down Button which you were holding down until now. Your iPhone’s screen will go completely black if you have successfully entered the DFU mode if you have not. Then fret not! Just go back to Step 1 and perform all the steps again.

Step 5: Finally, just restore your iPhone using your iTunes.

And that’s it! You are done!

Putting iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X in DFU mode

Your iPhone does not need to be turned off to be put in DFU mode.

Step 1: Just quickly press and release your Volume Up Button and quickly press and release your Volume Down Button and then finally quickly press and hold onto your Side Button until you see the screen of your iPhone going completely black.

Step 2: As soon as your iPhone’s screen turns black, press and hold down on your Volume Down button while continuing to hold down your Side button.

Step 3: The restore is almost done. Again after 5 seconds, release your Side button but continue to hold down on your Volume Down button until your iPhone shows up in iTunes.

Step 4: Finally, as soon as you see your iPhone appears in iTunes, release the Volume Button.

Note: If you see the Apple logo appearing on your iPhone screen, that’s just because you kept holding down your Volume Down Button for a little too long. No need to worry over that just go back to the top and try performing the functions once again.

And it’s finally done!

How to exit DFU mode?

Step 1: Now you have iTunes open on your laptop. If not, connect your iPhone to your laptop using USB and let your iTunes recognize the iOS device.

Step 2: Press Home and Power Button on your iPhone or iPad together for 10 seconds and then release both Home and Power Button together.

Step 3: Quickly press the Power Button and wait for your iPhone or iPad together restart. After you have done all this your iPhone or iPad will come out of DFU mode and will start working normally.
